A Microscopic Method of Distinguishing Dead from Living Bacterial Cells.

چکیده
Dilute solutions of dyes were applied to animal or plant cells nearly as far back as a century ago. By this means it was sought to gain an insight into various life processes of the cells, to demonstrate certain cellular structures, or to find out whether the cell were dead or alive. The work started by Ehrlich on nerve cells and blood cells, and the stimulus it gave other workers, have given us a respectable literature on the subject, to which contributions are still being made from time to time. The first application of "vital" stains to bacteria was made by Metchnikoff (1887) in his immortal study of phagocytosis. He says:

Comparative Study on the Ni2+ Biosorption Capacity and Properties of Living and Dead Pseudomonas putida Cells
Microbial cells have been successfully used as biosorbents to remove heavy metals from wastewater. In some cases, dead cells appear to offer more advantages than living cells in the removal and recovery of heavy metal ions from industrial wastewater. Maintaining higher biosorption capability and understanding t...
متن کاملA Fuzzy Expert System for Distinguishing between Bacterial and Aseptic Meningitis
Introduction Bacterial meningitis is a known infectious disease which occurs at early ages and should be promptly diagnosed and treated. Bacterial and aseptic meningitis are hard to be distinguished. Therefore, physicians should be highly informed and experienced in this area. The main aim of this study was to suggest a system for distinguishing between bacterial and aseptic meningitis, using f...
متن کاملCriminal Challenges of Removal of Organs from Living Donors for Transplantation
Organ transplantation in Iran like many other countries is accepted as the last therapeutic method for patients with end-stage organ failure. Sources of transplantable organs include living and deceased/brain dead donors, among which a considerable number of organs for transplant are obtained from living donors. Removal of organs from deceased and brain dead donors for transplantation is allowe...
متن کاملDetermination of Pseudomonas Putida Live Cells with Classic Cultivation and Staining with “live/dead Baclight Bacterial Viability Kit”
Periodic culture of Pseudomonas putida strain ATCC 12633=NBPMCC1090 was investigated in a 24 h experiment for sensitivity to zinc oxide thin films constructed under different conditions. The growth of bacteria was followed at every three hours and three methods were used to determine live cells. Optical density, cultivation and microscopic methods were applied and compared. To distinguish activ...
متن کاملBacteriological study of dead-in-shell embryos of ostrich
In order to study the bacterial flora of dead-in-shell ostrich chicks, twelve unhatched eggs which did nothave external pipping during the hatching period were transferred to the laboratory of microbiology. The eggshells were accurately disinfected and the embryos were removed and placed in a sterile plate. The surface of each embryo was swabbed with a sterile swab which was also plunged throug...
